That's the thing with Austin and Carrie for me. For most of what I saw, they were a couple that were defined by external obstacles, and when they finally got together I didn't get the appeal. I am willing to put that totally down to Austin Peck though, but still, I never hit that moment where I thought they were just as good together as they were when fighting to be together. It's when a couple can do both well that they hit that bonafide meant to be status for me. Now I think Austin and Carrie are obviously a big couple, one of the 90s' biggest, so I don't think they should be tossed away, but these kinds of internal obstacles are actually what could help them, for me, because that's my taste I suppose, I prefer internal obstacles for couples than external ones. I never rooted for Caustin before this run, I thought the idea of them as a realistic set of grown-ups trying to pull their life together and have their dream was endearing. The obstacles help me start to care. I don't necessarily want them to be done in by their obstacles, but I prefer them having some texture than to be bland. The way I see it, Carrie isn't out of love for Austin, but she's having rivaling feelings for Rafe, and so that means that while Carrie is Austin's One True Love, she can't say the same any more for Austin. I don't think it's quite the same as a loveless marriage, but it's still distressing. I do think the timing of this whole thing could have been better but I think a lot of it played out that way because for a while they maybe thought Christie would be back. I do think that this gives Carrie and Austin instant story for the future if they ever do return. They're not that old yet, although I think the situation is more dire for poor Patrick. |

Good points. I agree. However, others here, including Mitch, have referred to the scrapbooking and other actions Austin has taken (or not taken) during MarDar's tenure to be less than "masculine" in nature. (Sorry, Mitch, I'll stop speaking for you now. :)) Honestly, I think Austin has fared much better and has come across as much more sympathetic than any of the others in the triangle. I kind of like the fact that he's standing by Carrie and trying to look beyond her missteps. Maybe because I'm not into the brawny fistfighting, puffed-up-pride, macho, resorting-to-violence-to-resolve conflict definitions of "masculine." Of all of them, he's shown as having evolved and grown -- a rarity on this show. |

PM Started out wretched last year. His face??? Well, once that treatment relaxed, he looked much better and acted much better. I did not like Austin the wimp for Carrie. Carrie and Rafe were great together and would have provided so much needed sisterly angst for Sami. Austin could have spun off in other directions, not dictated by fan base wars. He & Jennifer could get close, or finally giving in to his Abby lust. What a waste of longtime characters. |

I totally agree with annie21! Let them leave with Carrie recommitted firmly to her marriage with a plan to forget Rafe. Let them break up offscreen but nothing to do with Rafe. Let CC return in a bit hoping not to see Rafe at all, thinking he is gone and or committed to someone else, let her focus on her career, maybe have a brief romance and meanwhile let them SLOWLY make their way back together through various circumstances and situations! That could work and would be so much better than, "I love you, but I'm in love with him, but I'm having your baby, so let's run away to Switzerland so I can forget him..." they could partially accomplish the recommitment offscreen though if Carrie stays in contact with Marlena and lets her know how she has reevaluated/ recommitted to Austin and has no regrets, etc. Hopefully, TPTB will consider this and implement it into the s/l. Well, one can hope anyway! |

They need to do some real work with Carrie if they ever bring her back. Between her last stint, where she decided she couldn't be with Austin because they might have an "imperfect" child...and then she slept with Lucas and Austin on the same night...Well, it was a terrible ending for her character at that time. NOW she comes across even worse because she embarked on this lame emotional affair with Rafe and wouldn't be straight with Austin about it. I don't understand why she didn't just level with Austin. There have always been stories about a person being with someone they don't love, but I always knew why they were with that person...there was some real reason. I don't really see Carrie's real reason. And now, she's not leaving because she really LOVES Austin and wants to be with him. She's doing it because she feels she should. Obligation. Austin doesn't need the favor. |

Haven't been watching, or reading spoilers/day aheads for that matter, but thought I'd pop in and read stuff. Bad idea. Another DAYs fail. She's leaving for Switzerland to avoid her feelings for Rafe :puke: Looks like it's more of the same. Shame. |
